One of the many benefits of joining ERC is organised club coaching. The club has a team of coaches with skills in many different disciplines, who have experience of coaching at all levels, from juniors and novices through to national champions.
For all members, we can offer a mentoring scheme where you can be guided through setting up your bike so that it fits you properly, how to prepare yourself for training and racing using a structured programme, what to eat and drink, and the psychology of racing. If you are a novice, we can help advise you on appropriate events and explain how to go about entering them.
As well as a variety of training runs throughout the week, we arrange coached sessions to develop specific skills. Some coaching is done on the road, but we also make use of traffic free venues such as Ingliston Showground (where our criterium races are held) and Meadowbank Velodrome.
Our MTB section can also provide advice on how to prepare for racing, and the club have organised a number of special coaching events aimed at developing technical off road skills.
We offer one-to-one coaching for highly focussed and dedicated cyclists who want to improve further. This requires a full commitment from the rider as spaces are limited but we welcome enquiries for this service from novices. Also on offer is the Training Peaks package, an interactive website which enables coach and rider to communicate in a highly effective way to create and manage an annual training plan.
The club offers cycle performance testing of athletes on a dedicated test rig.
Details of all club coaching sessions, talks, rides, swims and all weekly rides can be found in the What's on? page.
If you have a question about any aspect of your cycling, equipment, or programme, or would like to apply for one to one coaching, please contact the coaching coordinator.
