Saturday Special Ride
«
on:
November 07, 2008, 12:09:37 PM »
Hi all,
Jus a note on tomorrow's ride. It will take the same format as last week, but different route. 30+ riders heading out on this route
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2376261
Pace will be pretty easy, but fasy enough to keep Big Tim warm and to make Kevin Tait sweat a bit.
It's a social ride, until the last 20-30 min...
Chris

Looks like a great route. But, which one's the "special" ride (ie which start time) and who can join in?

See the front page of the website for further details. If you ride the 9:30 or 9:40 you should have no problems with the pace or distance. Geo Angus and Zoosh should be able to keep up

Could always do the duathlon instead.
Choices, choices.

9:30 sharp(ish) depart - theres a nice 15 mile climb into a westerly headwind, so keep baggy winter tops to a min - (the reward is a 35mph no pedalling!) (first back to penicuik wins the Nirvana sprint) tailwind back along the moor from west linton - if its a cracking day i might propose an extension once we are back in familiar territory - any proposals for crossing town welcome but i reckon down and across to morningside then out comiston

oh yeah - by the way - what the route doesn't show is that we go passed stobo castle to get to romanobridge, west linton, then back in by hillend and not the extra bit thro dalkeith

why not go the other way (W Linton first then Biggar, Carnwath etc) as the road down to Biggar's not quite as bad as the uphill slog from Balerno plus it means a nice tail-wind run-in along the Lang Whang & the final sprint could be either the uphill one into Balerno or the downhill one before the Longstone x-roads (nice wide road that one)

you're doing next weeks route marco! - have you ever ridden 'that' road in east from west linton with a tailwind in a bunch? any amount of climbing is worth that run in i promise - there are numerous passing place posts for intermediate sprints to! (useful given that we're supposed to be keeping a steady tempo at this time of year!!!!!) also this way you get all the altitude in early on - it down hill from carnwath all the way (almost)

Where's the sign on and which side are the numbers to be pinned on?
Do you need me to drive the broom wagon?
