Just back from the Selkirk Sportive, which is part of a weekend of cycle events, with a mountainbike marathon tomorrow. There were 2 distances to choose from: 47 miles or 95, and in our wisdom we thought it would be a good idea to do the longer one. This was the toughest ride I've done for a long while, with some tough climbs.

This was a great event. Really well organised and signposted, good feedstations and a decent t-shirt to take home!

The event was really friendly with everyone said hello to each other, apart from the one group of cyclists who passed me and completely ignored me. This group contained several ERC jerseys and at least one member of the committee. There had been other ERC riders out and they were all friendly, it was just this one group. Seems just a little rude to me and doesn't give a great impression of the club to others, boys.

Diana, I was in a group which definitely included one committee member and one ERC jersey.  However, personally, I can’t recall seeing any other ERC tops out on the road, although quite a few at the start and finish. What I can say, is that whilst the route was interesting, as a consequence of the efforts of some in our group, for a large proportion of the time, all available orifices were pressed into service for the purposes of respiration, and not available for the issue of expletives or any other form of verbal communication. I can assure you that we were not discriminatory in any way, and silence was generally meted out to all that we passed during the day. It’s also worth noting, that off the bike, the committee member in our group usually prefers communication in the form of the written word, and on the bike, relies on changes in facial expression.  So, if we did pass you, it’s quite possible that even without realising it, you might have been the recipient of a friendly raised eyebrow, or even a grimace, from him.

I was an ERC shirted rider with a green and white helmet riding in a larger group. I hope I said hello to every other ERC rider I passed and if not I apologise! I definitely chatted to a Northern Irish ERC rider at the finish. Good event apart from the absence of the first food stop and the fact that my riding buddy dropped me on the long climb out of Moffat!
