ERC Hillclimb Championship 2011
« on: November 04, 2011, 07:02:29 PM »
Dear All

Saturday 26th November is the date of the club-confined ERC Hillclimb Championship.

The venue for the club hill climb championship will again be Arthur's Seat, Queens Park, but this year the road will be closed between 9-11am for the event.  This is to encourage even more of our younger riders to take part.

Meet at the bottom gate by St Margaret's Loch at 9am with the first rider away at 9:30.

A nominal fee of £1 for riders 18 and under and £3 for those over 18 gives you three attempts with your best time being counted.

I'll advertise the prize list nearer the time, but in the meantime, sharpen up those climbing legs for the ascent from St Margaret's Loch to Dunsapie Loch.

Cheers
Colin

Please note that this event will not now take place on 26th Nov.  I'll post here as soon as I can get another date.  Sincere apologies for any inconvenience.

Cheers

Dear All

The 2011 Edinburgh RC Hillclimb Championship will be held on Fa'side Hill on Sunday 27th November with the first rider off at 11:01.

The course is very challenging and has a variety of gradients between steep and very steep.

Entry is £1 per rider and the field is limited to 60.  All ERC members over 12 years old can take part (those under 12 are not allowed to ride in events on the open road - sorry).  Enter on the day or see me on a club run.

Georges Avraam is helping me organise the event but I need a few officials and marshals so if you're not taking part, please consider assisting.

  Prizes will be announced shortly.
Cheers
Colin

Complete your cycling Sunday by then riding onto Meadowmill to shout some abuse encouragement at the mud-sucking types with knobbly tyres and cantilever brakes on the next leg of the SCx season.

P.S. Colin, where is the start line? Want to try map out the distance / climb and maybe fit in a few practice attempts between now and then so I know what I'm in for. It doesn't count doing it in the dark tonight because couldn't see anything but a string of flashing red lights passing me on either side!

Start and finish would be good! I'm not anywhere near Edinburgh that day so I'll miss it :( but that's my hill - go up it all the time - so would be nice to work out just how slow I am compared to the rest of you  :o

According to Le Patron's announcement last night, it will finish in the vicinity of the castle, starting somewhere beyone where Crookston is marked.

It definitely exists - and is definitely steep.

If you look right as you head out towards Wallyford on the Saturday run you can see it - after the Carberry roundabout but before the A1 flyover.

You wouldn't normally go up in on a group ride cos it doesn't really go anywhere - comes out near Tranent.

It exists believe me , I went a reccy on sunday afternoon and  came in from the jet garage side just before tranent  turned the corner and seen a gradual incline ahead leading up to fa,side castle  and thought "ye i can do this " after reaching the castle i was surprised how good i felt , At the castle the road turns to the left so as i had never been this route before thought i,d see where it lead  only to find  a few hundred yards along the road there was a serious descent on a tight twisty road , only then did the penny drop that  this would be the  hill we will be climbing . OUCH !!!!!!
