"Businesses should be invited to sponsor cycleways and cycling super-highways".
Businesses such as News International should be invited to pay their taxes, and we should have a proper nationalised integrated transport infrastructure to take freight & commuter traffic off the roads.

Spot on. Call me a cynic but it seems to me the Murdoch press have only been taking an interest in cycling since they realised it was 'the new golf' and had lots of affluent participants. I also can't help but think that corporate sponsored cycle lanes would only be for rich areas or go to the business in question. 5000 new miles of cycle lanes and the only place you can go is macdonalds...

Cycling safety is being debated in the House of Commons tomorrow. If you support the campaign you should write to your MP asking him to attend and participate in the debate. You can contact your MP through the Times campaign site at:
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/public/cyclesafety/contact/
It's only through cyclists taking political action that we'll make our streets safer for cycling.
Go on, you know you should.

Wasn't this campaign due to one of their journalists being hospitalised after an RTA while riding her bike?

The Time campaign is a good thing, but worth noting that the website will give you the details for Westminster MPs - I think transport policy is a devolved issue, so it might be better writing to your MSP, if you're that way inclined.
Also... the council announced a couple of weeks ago it was going to invest 5% of its transport budget in cycling infrastructure etc (see
http://www.spokes.org.uk/wordpress/2012/02/edinburgh-sets-new-standard/
. Also a good thing (better than nothing, at any rate), but I haven't, as yet, seen any concrete suggestions on how it will be allocated. So might be worthwhile also writing to your local councillor at the same time.

Just listened to a snippet of the debate that made it onto the radio, all quite tame but its on their radar, time to keep up momentum.
I put my name on the Times campaign list, emailed my local MP Mark Lararoxicz, and got a letter back (!) from Malcolm Chisholm MSP who is in favour of reduced speeds in town and more dedicated cycle lanes. I've also signed-up with Cycling Scotland to help with cycling tuition, which if it means more of us obeying the rules of the road so much the better.
For what it's worth I don't want separate cycling avenues or legislation, I want a cultural shift in attitude amongst road users, everyone wins, its simple. 'A momentary loss of concentration' is not excusable.
nuf sed.
