The Edinburgh Spring Classic APR
31 May 2012
Organised by Edinburgh RC

Thank you for entering the Edinburgh Spring Classic APR.  The race is four and a bit laps of a demanding circuit in rolling East Lothian countryside with a total distance of 42 miles. 
Race HQ is at Neilson Park Tennis Club Pavillion opposite the Aubigny Sports Centre.  Please park in the sports centre car park.  Do not bring vehicles up to the tennis club.
There will be five groups setting off from 19:00.  The race usually finishes around 20:45.  The finish line is on the long straight with the wall beside it on the Bolton Rd and will be clearly marked. 
Please ride in a considerate manner and obey the Highway Code.  Please make every effort not to drop litter.  We enjoy a good relationship with the local community and ERC organise many events in this area so please bear this in mind. 
Each junction will be signed and the major ones will have marshals.  A risk assessment will be available to view at sign-on.  A current BC licence is required and will be retained until your numbers are returned.  A day licence can be purchased at sign-on.  Sign-on will open at 17:30 and close at 18:40.  Riders will assemble over the Waterloo Bridge on the left in groups prior to their departure time which will be shown on the start sheet.  Please try not to inconvenience people entering or leaving this entrance. 
After the race, there will be a fabulous array of refreshments and cakes courtesy of Carolyn Coutts.  Please make a contribution towards the food. 
Prizes will be awarded as soon as we have sorted out the results.  You can speed this process up by ensuring your numbers are correctly positioned!

An ERC rider can win, we just need to attack non stop. If you are in a big bunch with one lap to go we need to have a continuous stream of ERC break aways. When one attack is caught we launch another and another until one sticks. This will expose chasing riders and render them helpless. Even if you don't think you can win, launch an attack anyway to keep the chasers chasing. Get together in twos or threes before the race and agree to be an attack team. Launch attacks from the back of the bunch, don't pursue your team mates and get on the wheels of any chasers. That should do it, ERC forcing non stop breaks on the bunch until we're away.

Big thanks to Colin and his team for braving the drizzle, a great event and well organised. Hope all those caught in the dash for the line melee are ok or will soon mend. Got caught and lost touch way too early, damn that elastic, thanks to Joanne and co for the company and help in keeping the pace high there after. Best tasting tea and cakes ever.

Many thanks to everyone who helped last night - it was a very exciting race!  The three breakaways motivated the front group to lift the pace at a crucial point and it was just enough to hold off the chasers. 

So thanks to Henry, Sonya, Colin C, Cameron, Sine, Tam, Sean, Andy S, Phil, Jonny, Ken, Andy C, Graham, David, Lauri and Sandra for making it all happen.
