For the edinburgh spring classic APR cat 2,3,4 it was a rainy day and I was put in group 3, which was the biggest group of 24 riders. There where 5 groups altogether. We set off at 19:07 and straight away two riders broke away (one of the being simon kirkness) so I went with them and worked for 2-3mins but I then desided it was way too early to be chasing the other groups with only two other people so we went back to the bunch, our group didnt really work well together but the pace was kept high. After catching groups 2 and 1 on laps 2-3 ish guys in the erc started attacking on lap three to try and brake away and to force the opposing clubs to chase. On the long hill to gifford someone lifted the pace slightly and I looked back and i had a gap of 20meters with two other riders one from pedal power and I dont know what club the other guy was in, we worked well together and the guy from pedal power couldn't keep up so it was just me and another guy taking turns on the front and our gap seemed to be increasing with every pedal stroke, with 2 miles to go we took a sharp left hander and the guy in the lead with me took it too fast and fell hard on his left side so I just time trialled it to the finish and had roughly 20 seconds on the chasing field.I would like to thank the organiser colin russel for hosting such an event, caroline and alex couttes for the catering, all the marshals and the guys in the erc for using tactics which worked in my favour.
