Ingliston Criterium Series No4 23 May 02

Former series winner, Martin Lonie (SCU RT) had the endurance and guts to record his first win in this season's Ingliston Criterium Series in convincing style. Breaking away after the second sprint prime, he stayed away for the remaining nine laps with his lead holding around 10 seconds. There was no concerted chase from the bunch in which only John Stollery (Robert Grinsell Travel) and evergreen Andy Matheson (Musselburgh RCC) showed much interest in bringing him back.

Liam Innes (Falkirk BC) got the race off to a lively start by crashing on the first lap but he rejoined without injury to finally take ninth place. Greg Imlah (SCU RT) put in the first serious attack after 12 minutes of racing but Wilson Kane (Royal Albert) and Gary Hand (Pedal Power) brought it all back together. Super sprinter Evan Oliphant (Velo Ecosse) secured maximum points in the first two sprint primes and also won the bunch sprint 31 seconds after Lonie to record his second successive second place. He takes over as the Premier League leader from absentee James McCallum who was away racing in Belgium.

Round 3 winner Stollery who has moved to Edinburgh through his employment, put his failure to score at the finish down to tiredness after competing in the Ness Monster Premier Calendar event last weekend. He paid tribute to the superb course and event organisation and also to the friendly atmosphere of the highland event.

Please note an error in the result for the Division One race. 4th and 5th place should have been given to Oliver Brooks, Edinburgh RC and Mike Cunningham, Edinburgh Triathletes, not David Millar and Neil Laing.
