Frequently asked questions
What are the Saturday road rides like?
Saturday road runs (new order as of 7/4/07) :
All runs start from the Commonwealth Pool on Dalkeith Road. There are ~ four groups, starting with the 09:30 and getting progressively slower up to the 09:50 introductory ride. (If you get dropped don't worry - there should be a slower run coming along behind.) If the ride you choose is too slow, move up a group, don't make a road race out of it.
09:30 the fastest of ERC's training runs. This is the run to aim for if you're serious about your racing ambitions. If you're thinking about giving it a go, then you're big enough, fit enough and well enough aware of all the shortcuts to be able to go it alone without worrying about being left out to dry in distant East Lothian.
09:40 - the most popular run, aimed at riders with some experience of group riding and which usually needs to be split into smaller groups at Dalkeith. This run will probably average 20-22mph. Please try to get away from the notion of faster and slower groups on this run. Any "faster" riders (this is all relative really)should go off with the 09:30. Further splits at Dalkeith should therefore be on an arbitrary basis.
09:45 - the run for riders looking to make the step up from the introductory run.
09:50 - this is the run for riders new to ERC/thinking about joining ERC. Although the run is not aimed at complete novice riders, run leaders are encouraged to keep the runs at around the
2-2.5 hours maximum mark. Depending on who's leading the run the 09:50 will not necessarily follow all, or any, of the route of the faster training runs however.
If you find the group you're with is not challenging enough for you then please take the step up to an earlier, faster group and do not persist in disrupting the group you're currently with. There's a safety net now,so there are no excuses;)
Please ride safely and predictably, with consideration for your fellow riders, and above all within the rules of the road. The club's reputation rests with all of us.
Individuals take part in any group rides at their own risk. Edinburgh RC and its club members accept no responsibility for the safety of anyone participating in group rides, and no liability in the event of an accident.
