What memberships and licences do I need to race?

What you need to know to start racing

BCF Membership and Race Licences.

Provisional licences are issued free of charge with Silver and Gold British Cycling memberships.Bronze membership carries no licence at all.
Provisional licences are sufficient for Regional C,C+ and Go-Ride events (category of event is shown on the BC/SC Calendar). If you hold a Bronze membership then a day licence is £5 for these event types. Non-members pay £10.
For Regional A or B events you require a full racing licence(which can be purchased when applying for your Silver/Gold membership) although if you have a provisional licence this can be upgraded for the day on payment of £5.
If you are a Bronze member then the cost of a day licence is £10. Day licences cannot be issued for non-members in Regional A/B events.

For National events, a full licence is required and no day licence may be purchased.

In short, if you intend to race only C or C+ events then all you need is either Silver or Gold BC membership.

Similarly, if you intend riding just SC Time Trials, all you will need is Silver or Gold BC Membership

N.B. if you are taking out a BC membership, you must also pay the East of Scotland Cycling Association (ESCA) fee of £4. This is payable to ERC either directly to the registrar or via Entry Central when joining.
