Field & Lawn announces sponsorship deal with Edinburgh RC

Press release 15 February 2008

Field and Lawn, one of the UK's premiere marquee hire companies, has today announced a major sponsorship deal with Edinburgh Road Club, one of the UK's biggest cycling clubs.

For the 2008 season Field and Lawn will inject £5000 into the club's men's road squad which will contest the major Scottish road events including the newly- launched Super 6 series. The funds will be used to assist riders with entry fees, clothing, travel, and team support costs.

The 20-man squad includes current Scottish 15k track and East of Scotland road race champion Ross Crook, former Scottish hill-climb runner-up Calum Maclean, 20 year-old East of Scotland 25  and hill-climb champion Aidan Mcilroy, and 18 year-old rising star Oliver Young who has won Scottish medals on the track and off-road. Also a member is former Scottish Road Race champion, Ken Russell, who will bring his many years of experience to the role of squad manager. The squad will be coached by Neil Muir.

ERC's President, Ken Whitson, (former Scottish sprint champion and Commonwealth games rider) commented:

"This deal has generated an enormous amount of enthusiasm within Edinburgh Road Club. With Field and Lawn's support we hope to prove that we can be a force to be reckoned with in Scotland. Through the success of our women's squad in 2007 which picked up 19 Scottish medals and several British top 10 placings, we have shown that we can nurture and develop talent for the top echelons of cycling. We are very grateful to Field and Lawn for their generous sponsorship which will hopefully allow our men to follow-on from the success of our women. In addition, ERC has committed a four figure sum from its own resources to back both the men's and women's squads this season.

Cameron Stewart, founder and Managing Director of Field and Lawn added:

"We recognise ERC as one of the best organised and most progressive cycling clubs in the country and are delighted to be able to support grass roots sport in this way. Cycling is an excellent way to keep fit and healthy but it is also currently one of the UK's most successful sports. We expect to see medals at the Beijing Olympics from the likes of Chris Hoy, Craig Maclean and Ross Edgar and hope that through this initiative with ERC will can help discover and develop future Scottish Olympians."
