Rund um Rhede
Amazing result in Germany
Rund um Rhede, German crit
What a day! Coming mainly from Time Trialling you never know what the result is until everyone has finished, tea drunk, numerous tuna sarnies and mini-cakes have been consumed and all excuses thoroughly explained to fellow competitors. So the feeling off crossing the line first is something that is truly amazing. This has happened twice now. The first in Bedford last year however I didn't really know what was going on and in state of shock, but this time there was that warm fuzzy feeling inside with a little(!) shout of joy!
All credit has to be given to the team who were superb. It was decided before the crit that this was the plan for me to get up in front and say cheerio and head off into the sunset. It took the third attempt that worked after being skillfully lead out by my team mate on the other side of the road from the peleton and getting up to speed on her wheel and then kicking the legs into top gear and off i went. Slightly concerned about the heart rate watch showing a little message "stop or your heart will implode!"but ignored this for the final 6laps.
I managed to hang on to 5 second gap and with the rest of the team doing really well in the final Sprint it was a great day. I highly recommend doing well in German crits, they are very generous in the prizes!!! 5 liters of beer, what more could i want!!!! and not only the beer but a mini-barrel too.
