ERC Juniors race round-up

ERC Juniors have been in race action over the last few weeks.
Starting with the popular Peebles Dirt Crit races, Robert Fernie launched his racing career with a gritty performance and 7th place in the 8 and Under race.  Although not in the medals this time the determination and effort he put in to his race marks him out as one to watch as he get older.

Next up were Sean Noon and Francis Webb in the 10-12 race.  This is a very competitive age group and both boys put in a terrific effort in the 4 lap race.  The single track descent through the trees was particularly fast and in the end Francis took 3rd and Sean 4th.

Final team member in action on the night was Louise Borthwick in the 12-14 age group.  This race contained many of Scotland's top young XC riders - both boys and girls - and was a fast and furious 5 lap sprint.  Louise was initially dropped by her two main rivals Hannah Ferguson and Lucy Grant, but a great effort got her back on their wheels on lap 3.  For the final two laps there was nothing to separate them but in the final sprint Lucy took the win from Hannah in second and Louise in third.

On to the Scottish XC Championships at Fort William.  The Juvenile category for boys and girls is becoming more and more competitive with a large field of riders taking part over a tough and technical course.  ERC Juniors had 3 representatives in this age group.  Louise Borthwick managed a podium finish of 3rd place in the Girls race with Francis Webb 16th and Sean Noon 19th in the Boys.  Both boys are first year Juveniles so the experience they gain this year will all be put to good use next year.

Francis then went on to compete in the Primary 6/7 race.  Again this is a very competitive field and Francis managed to get on the podium with a 3rd place finish. Emma Borthwick also competed in the Girls race, however she lost her back wheel on a tight corner and crashed out.
Louise and Sean were also joined by Lulu Bartlett and Holly, Lydia and Laura Bell in the Scottish Cycling Youth XC Sprint. A full race report and photos can be found on the Scottish Cycling website.

Well done to all the riders - hope to see more Juniors at the Peebles Dirt Crits in the coming weeks.
