Thinking of racing in 2010? A reminder...

Whether you are new to racing, or a seasoned pro’, a regular race winner or a really strong ‘domestique’ -  apply to join the new format men’s road race team being established for next season.

We are looking to create a ‘pool’ made up of riders keen to race.   We have already had a good number of riders showing an interest.  If you missed the message first time round, or have been thinking about it, but just not got round to it, here's your chance.

While every applicant will have to undergo a fitness test (initial tests will be carried out during January) but we do not necessarily expect to see peak race fitness at this stage – so do not be put off by that!!  The purpose behind this ‘team pool’ approach is to develop riders within the club, and raise the level of the club’s performance in races, using a team-based system, and developing team tactics.

From the rider’s pool, a team will be selected for each target event (maximum 6 – 8 riders).  Riders selected for a particular event will have travel and race entry costs reimbursed for the that event.

We will be targeting a range of races over the course of the season – 3rd & 4th cat events as well as established classics and selected Super6 races.

Training and coaching activities are planned for riders who are selected for the racing pool.

What you have to do:

If you are keen to race as part of a funded team next year,

  1. Contact Calum MacLean  crmaclean@yahoo.co.uk to register your interest.

  1. Book an ERC fitness test via the website for a date in January – a nominal fee is charged for this test to cover the cost of the equipment.

  1. Commit to racing at least three target events in 2010 (whether or not selected as a team rider for a particular event)

  1. Commit to attending any team training, coaching and briefing sessions arranged for a target event for which you have been selected.  This is about racing as a TEAM, not as an individual.

  1. Commit to volunteering for at LEAST one club event over the course of the season.  Every race depends on willing volunteers.  Being a member of the team is not just about racing.
