The Tri Centre New Year's Day Triathlon
Edinburgh RC, ERC Triathlon Squad and Edinburgh Racing have taken over organisation of the New Year's Day Triathlon. If you'd like to volunteer to help please email angela_99_uk@yahoo.co.uk.
This years event will also include the first ever Great Pyjamas Caper in aid of The New Pyjamas Campaign, raising funds for the New Sick Kids Hospital.
2010 New Year's Day Triathlon is a race for everyone; a fun race for those who have never done a triathlon before (about a third of participants are triathlon virgins each year) or a competitive test of winter fitness for the experienced. The race gives you the opportunity to start the year as you mean to continue - and with a great atmosphere from the support of both competitors and spectators you will have a great time. Every entrant receives a race memento so they can remember their achievement.
Due to the Commonwealth Pool refurbishment this year’s event will be located at a new venue within the Edinburgh University’s Moray House building in Holyrood Road where the swim will take place. The Cycle and Run sections will see minimal changes from previous years. Both disciplines will still take place on closed roads within Holyrood Park, located in the heart of Edinburgh.
This year’s event shall be a 300m swim (12 lengths of the Moray House Pool) an 11 mile cycle (three times around Arthurs Seat in a clockwise direction) and a 3 mile run (once around Arthurs Seat again clockwise). If this seems too much then why not enter a team? There is also no need for the kids to feel left out as there is a separate fun run for juniors up to 16 year olds. This involves a run of approx 1500m in aid of the Sick kids charity The New Pyjamas Campaign.
The fun - Great Pyjamas Caper run is scheduled to take place at 11am with the Triathlon starting at midday.
The organisers hope that the new location will help retain the unique atmosphere of what has become a well loved and popular winter race. We are delighted to have "The Tri Centre" as principal sponsor for the event and other key partners & sponsors Edinburgh University, Historic Scotland, Edinburgh Road Club, www.slstri.co.uk, MacDonald Hotel, The Bicycle Works and The New Pyjamas Campaign more to follow...
