Men's Road Team seeks team managers for 2010

Have you got what it takes to get the most out of our men’s road racing team? Would you like to be the next Johan Bruyneel? Managing a road team can be a great experience!

Edinburgh RC is seeking volunteers to act as a team manager for the club’s men’s road team for the 2010 season. In an ideal world one person would fulfil this role throughout the whole season. However recognising that this would be a considerable commitment, the club is hoping to identify a pool of people who could each help at one or more races.

The club wishes to foster and support a team approach to road racing so that the club’s numerical advantage can be used to best effect. Under this system, riders will be selected specifically for target races and then each rider will have a designated role within the team on that particular day. In order to do this effectively a team manager is required to manage, instruct and support the team to achieve the agreed race plan on the day of the race.

The team mangers will be supported by the Team Management Group and any necessary briefing and training given. In addition, the club will support the team manager with expenses to attend races and provide back up equipment and consumables e.g. lubricants, race fuel and recovery drinks. ERC team clothing e.g. polo shirts, sweatshirts, beanies, would also be supplied to ensure the club displayed a consistent and professional public image.

Specifically the team manager would:

  1. Input into team selection procedures
  2. Ensure that for the chosen event all race entries are submitted on time
  3. Ensure that all the necessary support is in place for that particular event
  4. Brief the selected race team members to inform them of the event details, race plan and each rider’s role on the day.
  5. Support the team on the day (with assistance if necessary) by way of race feeding, information etc
  6. Represent the race team to the race organisers and/or commissaries on race day.
  7. Debrief the riders following the race to identify strong performances and areas for improvement.
  8. Nominate a rider to produce a race report for the club website.
  9. Feedback to the Men’s Team Management Group on any relevant matters arising from the race.
