Rider Profile - Calum Maclean

Calum Maclean uphill training

  1. Lance Armstrong or Eddy Merckx?
I normally select preferred riders on cuteness factor (not a criteria of the ERC team selection though, I hasten to add!) but not much to choose from here!  NOT a fan of the Armstrong character, so it has to be Eddy Merckx
  2. Favourite SCU event?
Despite the lack of points on offer, the Wanlockhead RR.  Or the Davie Bell Memorial RR in Ayrshire - great 40m circuit with a that long climb which has always suited me.  Just a shame about the appalling road surfaces in each case!
  3. Favourite professional event?
Don't really have one. I prefer riding the bike myself to watching others - though I do like the Tour de France highlights - hilly stages especially.
  4. What bike do you ride?
Hopefully a Look595 - assuming it can be repaired!! Might have to be in the market for a new one though...
  5. What bike would you like to ride?
... in which case, I like the look of the new top end Wilier  - or De Rosa....
  6. Favourite pro & why?
Tom Boonen - see response to question 1!
  7. What do you consider your best ride?
Any where I have really gone out and grabbed the race - been in a breakaway, and really been part of the action.  There was a great Grand Prix series race in Ayrshire years ago - which I nearly gave up on in the first half hour but neded up breaking away on the long climb (same climb as Davie Bell RR) and survived in a break of 5 till the last couple of miles!!
  8. Anquetil or Poulidor?
Had to look this one up!  It reminded me of Ross Crook and Calum MacLean shoulder to shoulder on the Lammermuirs RR climb - ok, not quite. Perhaps I can't answer this one having said that? ;-)
  9. Favourite Turbo/training music?
Nothing associated with the turbo can be a favourite.  When I do turbo training though, I sometimes listen to Radio 4!!
  10. Favourite training ride?
    The Leadburn Legburn – RIP
