Rider Profile - Alexa Mair

  1. Lance Armstrong or Eddy Merckx?
    Eddy Merckx.
  2. Favourite SCU event?
Scottish Champs this year – good course, well run and a great welcome from the people in Balfron.
  3. Favourite professional event?
Has to be the Tour de France.
  4. What bike do you ride?
    Trek Madone WSD 4.7.
  5. What bike would you like to ride?
I’d be curious to know what a top of the range bike feels like, but the one I have is a lot of fun so not planning to change it any time soon. If money was no object, I’d add some swanky wheels.
  6. Favourite pro & why?
Emma Pooley – I would love to be able to climb like that.
  7. What do you consider your best ride? Although I’ve had races which have gone well and am a lot quicker and stronger than when I did it, the nearest I’ve been to having the perfect ride for a particular day was in the Etape Caledonia 2010.
  8. Anquetil or Poulidor?
That’s going back a bit! From looking at the video clips, it looks like the sort of contest it would be impossible to pick a favourite from.
  9. Favourite Turbo/training music?
Foo Fighters - The Pretender. This was the backing track for a video of the Tour de France shown the night before the London to Paris sportive I did a couple of years ago. I felt like I spent 3 days on the edge of the red zone in that event so this track reminds me that I can always keep going a little bit longer.
  10. Favourite training ride?
Up the Sma’ Glen road from Gilmerton in Perthshire – a long, tough climb, but amazing views!
