2022 Ben Forsyth C-R-Y Race Day Youth Results

The Ben Forsyth C-R-Y Race Day was held in warm bright sunshine despite its timing in March. The races were in preparation for the Youth Tour of Scotland which takes place next weekend.

The day began with the youngest riders (YE & YD) and progressed throughout the morning until the last race was for the YA & B boys. Since the past winner, Elliot Rowe was unable to attend, there was sure to be a new winner of the cup. After 45 mins of hard racing, two riders from the promoting club proved too strong for the bunch crossing the line 15 secs ahead.

In Jamie's words, this is how the race played out.

“I went into the day hoping for a hard race and to attack a lot. Weather was perfect for bike racing, sunny and not too windy. Was happy to see a few of the ERC team were also looking to force the pace with various riders launching attacks that kept a fast pace for the peloton as none of the riders wanted to let a breakaway get too far away. After trying to go clear a few times, eventually managed to break away with Ahron with a couple of laps to go, so came down to a 2 up sprint at the end. Was delighted to time my sprint just right and edge it by around a bike length.”

The girls' race was another hard fought contest in which Deeside Thistle riders Molly Evans and Thea Aitken 'sandwiched' Johnston Jets' Isla McCutcheon.

Molly described the race from her perspective.

"It was the perfect day for racing, great weather and very little wind. I attacked lots during the race but the field was strong and I could not get away from the majority of the bunch. We kept the pace high though and I chased down any other attacks that tried to go. It came down to a bunch sprint and I had positioned myself so I had a good clear line and won by just a few wheel lengths! Excellent days racing and really happy with a good time trial to top it off as well."
