Wellbeing & Protection Policy
Adopted at Committee Meeting, 06 April 2022
We, the Club, believe that good practice at Edinburgh Road Club is as follows;
1. The safeguarding of the membership is everyone’s responsibility, particularly when it comes to protecting children and vulnerable adults from abuse. Everyone within the cycling club has a responsibility to ensure the safety of children, young people and adults involved in the sport. The Club will place the needs of the individual first and winning and competition second.
2. The underlying principles with respect to Wellbeing & Protection are that:
a. Everyone’s well-being is the first consideration.
b. All people, regardless of age, any disability they have, gender, racial origin, religious belief, and sexual identity have a right to be protected from abuse.
c. Children, young people and adults must be treated with integrity and respect.
d. Everyone’s programmes and competitions will be relevant to their ages and stages of development.
3. We are committed to the wellbeing and protection of children and vulnerable adults and endeavour to follow the current Scottish Cycling’s Wellbeing & Protection guidelines where appropriate.
4. The Club:
a. Aims to create an enjoyable environment, where everyone has the right to be safe, secure and free from threat.
b. Acknowledges that both young people and adults have the right to be treated with respect and for their concerns to be listened to and acted upon.
c. Will aim to ensure that specific programmes designated for individuals will be appropriate for them and will be developed with adequate supervision.
d. Is committed to ensuring that all helpers, whatever their role, read and sign a Code of Conduct.
e. Is committed to ensure that all members undertaking regulated work are PVG Scheme Members and have applied for a PVG through the Club via Scottish Cycling and have completed a Self-Declaration Form.
f. Provides clear, comprehensive, easily understood procedures for dealing with:
i. allegations of abuse
ii. requests for help and support on a confidential basi
g. Is committed to an equitable recruitment selection policy for coaches.
h. Will always emphasise fair play.
